Antique pewter charger / wall plate featuring a large relief double-headed eagle at center, surrounded by six separately inset medallions reproducing historic German and Central European coin designs.
The medallions depict various rulers, heraldic devices, and thaler-type designs, including Prussian and other Germanic imagery. Ornate scrolling foliate decoration surrounds the medallions. The plate is 12.5 inches in diameter.
The six circular medallions appear to be separately made inserts rather than designs cast integrally with the charger. Their exact metal composition hasnot been tested. They are therefore being described simply asmetal coin medallion inserts/reproductions, with no representation that they are silver or original circulating coins.
The central double-headed eagle and shield give the piece a striking Imperial German / Central European heraldic appearance. The plate has an old hanging fixture on the reverse and was evidently intended for decorative wall display.
An attractive and unusual antique decorative piece with particular appeal to collectors of pewter, German antiques, heraldry, numismatic-themed objects, and historic wall décor.
Please examine all photographs closely, including the detailed photographs of the individual medallions, as they form an important part of the description.
