Early real photo postcard showing New York Central Lines locomotive No. 7499, captioned in the negative “Big Lizz – Switch Engine 7499.”
No. 7499 was one of only two M-1c 0-10-0 switch locomotives, Nos. 7498 and 7499, built by Brooks in 1907 for the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway, better known as the Big Four, and operated within the New York Central system.
The enormous ten-coupled switching locomotive is shown broadside in a railroad yard, with “New York Central Lines” prominently lettered on the tender. An unusually good early railroad RPPC documenting one of New York Central’s uncommon heavy switch engines.
