The Petroff Family History

Alexander Serge Petroff was a Russian émigré whose life and career reflected the experiences of Russians who left their homeland following the Russian Revolution.

Born in Moscow in 1890, Alexander eventually emigrated to the United States, where he pursued a career in mechanical and aviation engineering. His professional history included work associated with the Locomobile Company and aircraft pioneer Igor Sikorsky in Connecticut.

Alexander was also associated with the Russian émigré community in the northeastern United States.

His daughter from an earlier marriage, Nadia Petrova Gardiner (1913–2000), became an actress and married British-born Hollywood actor and comedian Reginald Gardiner in 1942.

Alexander later married Vera Velichka Petroff. Their son, Nicholas Petroff, was Nadia\'s younger half-brother and subsequently worked with Radio Free Europe in its Russian broadcasting operations.

This photographic collection was recovered from Nicholas Petroff\'s archive, providing an important connection to the family\'s personal history.
