Offered is our third Native American or First Nation item this week:
This is an amazing tiny piece of artwork. Kind of hard to let it go, which explains my higher starting offer (similar ones listed online are for sale for $300 and up).
This is a Tohono O\'odham horsehair basket in a rare upright olla shape. It has cacti and houses. Style is very similar to work by the master weavers, Ruby Thomas, or possibly Adeline Manuel. I see one identified as a Ruby Thomas basket that looks exactly the same, but this did not have any attribution when I purchased it.
It measures 1 1/8\" by 3/4\" .
Excellent. A few stray pieces of horsehair stick up on bottom edge and one on rim. As with any handmade item, it isn\'t perfectly uniform and the bottom is a bit uneven. Please see pictures.
We purchased this a few years ago from an Illinois collection of miniature Native American baskets. He collected baskets from various tribes across the country from the 1960s-early 2000s. The price on a sticker inside was $80.
I decided to let it go because we aren\'t displaying it.
Information about our sales, shipping, etc:
*We will gladly combine orders to save you on shipping charges unless otherwise noted. Please email for a combined invoice before paying. Sorry, I can\'t combine collectibles and book/Magazine purchases.
*If you want me to hold items for the next week\'s sale, please contact me andwaitto pay until the last sale ends. Then I\'ll send you a combined invoice. If you pay right away, I will NOT be able to hold your items due to \'s ship within 1-day after payment rule. Please tell me if you are waiting for next week\'s sale. If you don\'t communicate and don\'t pay, you will get an automated non-paying buyer notice from after 4 days. Thank you!
*I pack carefully and try to reuse materials to save on environmental impact. I often double-box items with smaller gift boxes collected from various thrift stores. Though I don\'t like styrofoam peanuts for environmental reasons, I have found they are the best at protecting fragile items against damage during shipping. I reuse all that I receive and hope you will make use of the ones that come in your packages.
