Exceptional and highly limited Theo Fabergé Piano Egg from the St. Petersburg Collection. This example is individually numbered 77 of only 150 produced worldwide.
The Piano Egg was created to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the invention of the pianoforte. The elaborate egg features deep ruby-colored crystal, black enamel, sterling silver/vermeil and intricate musical-themed ornamentation.
The upper portion opens/removes to reveal an extraordinary miniature grand piano, complete with detailed piano and musical motifs. The piece also incorporates a musical mechanism associated with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
