A candid black and white photo capturing Mary Livingston, wife of comedy legend Jack Benny, leaning down to chat with her adopted daughter Joan Benny — who clutches a doll — at a nightclub table, while a man with a cigarette sits at right.
Mary Livingston (1905–1983), born Sadie Marks, was Jack Benny's wife and co-star: a radio and television comedienne who played his wisecracking wife on The Jack Benny Program, joining his radio broadcast in 1932 and remaining a beloved fixture of the show through its golden years. Their adopted daughter Joan Benny (1934–2021) grew up in the Hollywood spotlight and later co-wrote the memoir Sunday Nights at Seven: The Jack Benny Story.
The back of this print is inscribed in green ink: "mary livingston and her adopted daughter joan Benny (at the show)" — identifying the subjects and noting it was taken at a Jack Benny show appearance — with a penciled "#158".
IMPORTANT — FACSIMILE DISCLOSURE: This is a facsimile print / reproduction print, not an original period photograph.
SIZE: approximately 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches.
CONDITION: The facsimile print is clean and crisp; the back bears the handwritten green-ink inscription and penciled number as shown. Please study all three photos — front, back, and a tight detail crop — before purchasing.
A wonderful piece of entertainment memorabilia and old-time-radio / classic-TV history for Jack Benny collectors.
