Antique Red & White Pickle Dish Quilt • Hand Pieced & Hand Quilted • Star Center Variation • Approx. 72” x 72” • Estimated Late 1800s / Early 1900s
Absolutely stunning antique red and white handmade quilt featuring an intricate variation of the classic Pickle Dish pattern.
This is an exceptionally graphic two-color quilt featuring sweeping curved Pickle Dish arcs made from dozens upon dozens of tiny red triangular points. The curved sections surround striking four-point star/diamond centers, with additional partial Pickle Dish arcs creating a secondary pattern throughout the quilt.
The amount of handwork in this piece is remarkable.
The quilt appears to be hand pieced and extensively hand quilted, with beautiful closely spaced quilting visible throughout both the front and solid light-colored backing. Individual irregularities in the piecing and stitching add to the handmade character of the piece.
Based on the pattern, construction, materials and overall appearance, this quilt is believed to date approximately to the late 19th to early 20th century, likely circa 1880–1910. Exact age and maker are unknown, so the date should be considered an informed estimate rather than a documented date.

CONDITION:
This is an antique textile that has clearly been used and loved for generations and is being offered in as-found antique condition.
There is age-related wear throughout including scattered yellowing/toning and staining, fading and color variation, areas of weakened or thinning red fabric, worn/frayed small triangular pieces, occasional loose or exposed stitching, and other imperfections consistent with age and use.
Some areas of the red fabric show more significant fading and deterioration than others. Please carefully review all photographs, particularly the close-up photographs, as they are an important part of the condition description.
Despite its age-related imperfections, the quilt remains remarkably complete and displays beautifully. The bold red-and-white pattern is still extremely striking when the quilt is laid out.
The quilt has NOT been professionally cleaned or restored. Because of its age and fragile areas, cleaning will be left to the buyer’s discretion. I would recommend conservation-appropriate care rather than ordinary machine washing.
A beautiful piece for an antique quilt collection, historic textile collection, cottage or farmhouse interior, wall display, quilt rack, period home, photography/display piece, or for someone who appreciates early American needlework.
Please remember that this is an antique handmade textile rather than a modern manufactured quilt. Variations in stitching, construction, color, shape and symmetry are part of its history and handmade character.
Carefully photographed and described to the best of my ability.
