ANTIQUE c.1850s HAND-TINTED DAGUERREOTYPE PORTRAIT
Very unusual and atmospheric antique photographic portrait of an unidentified gentleman, believed to date to approximately the 1850s.
This early daguerreotype has an especially striking, almost eerie appearance. Depending on the angle and lighting, the gentleman seems to emerge from the dark mirrored surface, giving the portrait a wonderfully creepy Victorian look.
The face has what appears to be original hand tinting, including pink coloring to the cheeks and lips. The portrait is displayed behind glass with an ornate decorative brass mat/preserver featuring beautiful embossed floral and geometric details.
The image appears to be approximately sixth-plate size.
