Historical Significance:
Peter Colt (1744–1824): A prominent Revolutionary War officer/paymaster and the Treasurer of the State of Connecticut (1790–1794). He was co-founder of the Hartford Textile Mill (which made the inaugural suits worn by George Washington and John Adams) and was the grandfather of Samuel Colt, the famous firearms inventor.
Context: Official Connecticut colonial/early state document certifying Hope Nelson as tax collector for Sheffield.
