Wonderful mid-19th-century English Staffordshire ironstone teapot, dating approximately 1850–1870. This substantial 9.25\" tall teapot features an unusual paneled/octagonal body with raised molded decoration, architectural pedestal base, ornate scrolling handle, graceful spout and fitted pointed lid. Delicate purple, pink and red floral sprays decorate the creamy white ironstone. The interior features an integral perforated strainer for retaining loose tea leaves while pouring. An impressed “R” is present on the underside, possibly a mold, workman or pottery mark; maker remains unidentified. A striking example of early Victorian English tableware and a beautiful display piece for an ironstone or antique teapot collection. Keywords: Victorian ironstone, English ironstone, Staffordshire pottery, antique teapot, 1850s teapot, white ironstone, floral ironstone, octagonal teapot, Victorian tea ware, English pottery, antique china, transferware, 19th century pottery
