Outstanding original WWII U.S. Army Air Forces pilot officer’s uniform named to Marshall R. Modery, a wartime pilot who survived an aviation accident while serving in England.The coat retains its original Globe Tailoring Co., Cincinnati labels, including the handwritten tailor/order tag clearly identifying “M. R. Modery.” It is complete with USAAF pilot wings, Army Air Forces shoulder patch, officer U.S. and Air Corps collar insignia, gilt officer buttons, officer cuff braid, and integral belt.An original period photograph of Modery in uniform is also included, providing excellent provenance and making this an especially attractive named aviation grouping.Research identifies the owner as Marshall R. Modery, born August 17, 1923. He served as a commissioned Army Air Forces pilot during WWII and was stationed in England. Wartime aviation research located Modery in connection with an aircraft accident in England which he survived, giving this uniform a particularly interesting combat-era aviation history. Further work on the surviving USAAF accident records may allow the exact aircraft and complete accident narrative to be reconstructed.Modery survived the war and returned to civilian life. By 1946 he was living in Ithaca, New York, and attending college, and he later graduated from Cornell University, Class of 1948. Cornell’s alumni records later described him as a retired businessman and engineer. He died in 1991 at age 67. The tailor tag appears to date from the wartime period, when Modery would have been approximately 20–21 years old, entirely consistent with a newly commissioned AAF pilot.What makes this uniform especially desirable is the combination of:* Named WWII USAAF pilot
* Documented England service
* Survivor of a wartime aviation accident
* Original pilot wings and AAF insignia
* Original named tailor tag
* Original photograph of Modery
* Postwar Cornell University history
* Attractive, complete officer configuration with excellent display presenceMarshall R. Modery was born in 1923 and died in 1991, further matching the age and chronology expected of a young wartime AAF pilot. A very appealing and researchable WWII Army Air Forces grouping with considerably more history than the typical unnamed officer coat. The surviving accident connection, named tailoring, pilot insignia, and period photograph give this piece exceptional personality and provenance.Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition, insignia, construction, and details. Sold as the original WWII uniform and photograph shown.A scarce opportunity to acquire the named uniform of a WWII USAAF pilot who served in England and survived a wartime aircraft accident.
