WWII Part - USAAF Type D-6 Bomb Shackle for 2000 # Ordnance Load B-17 B-24 B-29 B-32One used WWII era USAAF Type D-6 bomb shackle for ordnance loads to 2000 pounds as manufactured under a 1941 contract number and appropriate for the heavies like the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, B-29 Superfortress and the B-32 Dominator. This was a AN (Army Navy) part that would've been acceptable as well for use in USN aircraft although they typically had their own supplies and like different nomenclature numbers and identifiers.
We have TWO identical units; offer is for one only. These are the LAST of the wartime heavy bomb shackles from the hangar. Once they are gone, they are gone.
Data as stamped into the shackle reads:
BOMB SHACKLETYPE D-6 2000 LB
41G4563
CONTRACT NO. W-33-038-ac-514
Both sides marked with same information. No other data - no maker's markings or inspection stamps or patent numbers. Makers included Seeger Refrigerator and Stanley (the thermos firm). A little dusty and a little dirty, but still ready to go to work. I suspect it has been outside for 50 years or so. There had been a parts tag on each of these but the tag is long gone.
Good condition. Not bent or damaged to inhibit functionality. Light surface rust on the steel pieces that were originally cadmium plated. Everything works and still releases and snaps back in to place with this unit. It measures about 36" length and roughly 5 inches width and is about a half-inch think. Weight is about 10 pounds.
Just like the Navy variants, these shackles were coupled either to bomb racks or hard point applications and then actuated with a 24 VDC release mechanism or box. There is none of that offered in this action - just the shackle. It's ready to go to mount your 100 lb. M38A2 practice bomb to the wall of the ready room or even better still it's clean enough to be used in a restoration project that lacked a shackle. Or hook it to a 250 or 500 pounder.
Shipping can go either USPS Ground Advantage or FedEx Ground - whichever is the cheaper option and most practical for our shipping day. We typically ship purchases throughout the weekdays and use both carriers to get items out the door as quickly as possible. CONUS sales only. We do not have an export license for this type of military surplus. What you see in the picture series is EXACTLY what you get. Questions? Please ask 'em. And thanks for looking!
