RARE ORIGINAL WWI “YARD-LONG” PANORAMIC PHOTOGRAPH — CO. E, 317TH SUPPLY TRAIN
Offered is an impressive original-period panoramic “yard-long” military photograph depicting African-American soldiers of Company E, 317th Supply Train, during the World War I era.
The photograph is identified in the image as:
“Co. E – 317th Supply Train”
The reverse bears the original printed information from:
ANDERSON PHOTO CO.
912 Grand Ave.
Kansas City, Mo.
The reverse also states that copies of the photograph could be ordered for $1.00, with orders made by the number on the reverse. This is strong evidence that the photograph was commercially produced and offered to members of the unit or their families.
Historical significance
The 317th Supply Train was associated with the 92nd Division, an important U.S. Army formation composed primarily of African-American soldiers during WWI.
This is a particularly interesting photographic format because it is a large panoramic group photograph rather than a standard 8×10 military photograph. The large number of soldiers makes it an impressive piece of WWI African-American military history.
Condition

The photograph has significant age-related condition issues, including surface loss/abrasion, fading, staining, discoloration, cracks and areas of deterioration. There is also wear to the edges/corners. It is being sold as found, and I have not attempted to clean, repair, or restore the original photographic surface.
Despite the condition, the photograph remains highly legible and the important unit identification and Anderson Photo Co. markings are present.
