Interesting First World War Royal Naval Air Service-style gilt eagle badge, believed to date from the WW1 period, circa 1914–1918.
The badge is formed as a detailed spread-wing eagle in gilt metal, with no crown or lettering to the front.
Approximate wingspan:
5.25 cm
The size, form and reverse construction are consistent with early military aviation insignia of the Royal Naval Air Service period.
The reverse retains two old folded-over slide / lug fittings, of the type used to secure badges through fabric, and these appear consistent with cap or uniform badge construction.
The Royal Naval Air Service served as the naval air arm during the First World War before merging with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force in 1918.
A scarce and interesting piece of early British military aviation memorabilia.
