THE FRANKLIN MILLS
Wheatlet (1890s)
Lithography on die-cut lightweight board, approx 6 1/2" x 3 3/4", with 2" easel.
Uncle Sam advertising stand-up die-cut lithographed figure of Uncle Sam for Wheatlet Breakfast Cereal was produced for The Franklin Mills Co., in Lockport, New York. The stand shows Uncle Sam with his arms crossed and holding an unrolled scroll that reads: "Sold by All Good Grocers." He stands beside a large bowl of the cereal titled "Wheatlet" that rests upon a box reading: "Wheatlet / A perfect breakfast food made from choice selected wheat and contains all its food properties / The Franklin Mills Co. / Lockport, N.Y. U.S.A." The side of the box reads: "Wheatlet enriches the dietary of the world." Undated but it appears to be turn of the century and in fact another seller with this same item dates it 1890's.
Condition is excellent with no fading and all parts appear to be present. When you look at the back you see a minor crease in the uncles neck-it can't be seen from the front. Looks like the tip of his black shoe may have been re-attached. Overall a 9++ condition for this piece.. From a pet free and smoke free home-the item has no odor. There is one other seller of this same item on -their Uncle Sam is not as good condition and asking much more than I am.
