Vintage lot of 6 Whirl-Glo revolving Christmas tree light shades, dating approximately to the 1930s-1940s.
These unusual lithographed paper/cardboard shades were designed to be positioned over Christmas tree light bulbs. Heat rising from the bulb interacted with the pinwheel-style vents at the top, causing the shades to revolve, creating an animated holiday display.
The six shades feature a wonderful assortment of colorful period graphics, including:
Santa Claus with holly
Santa and sleigh
Reindeer and Christmas tree
Horse-drawn winter sleigh
Vintage automobile/winter scene
Camel, palm tree and exotic scene
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related wear throughout. There are creases, edge wear, small tears/splits, surface wear and areas of loss, particularly around the delicate folded pinwheel tops. Graphics remain colorful and display very well. Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
Lot includes the 6 shades shown. No additional mounting hardware or accessories are included unless pictured.
A scarce and visually striking group of early revolving Christmas tree light decorations, great for a vintage Christmas collection or period holiday display.
