This listing is for one vintage creamer made by Shenango China for the former Shamrock Hotel in Houston, Texas. This piece features a Shenango China date code of B-9, which equals the production year of 1951.
Built by wealthy wildcatter Glenn McCarthy and opened in 1949, the Shamrock Hotel was a legendary symbol of Texas oil wealth and mid-century extravagance. Designed in a bold, modern style, it famously hosted a lavish, star-studded grand opening that was dubbed the biggest party in Texas history, attracting Hollywood celebrities, national media, and dignitaries. The hotel served as a vibrant social hub and resort throughout the 1950s. Despite its initial fame, the property eventually faced financial difficulties, changed ownership to the Hilton chain, and was ultimately demolished in 1987. Pieces of its custom restaurant ware remain cherished collectibles of Houston\'s glamorous golden era.
Fair-minus condition. One extremely small flake chip on the front towards the bottom. No other chips and no cracks. The creamer is clean on the inside with no scuffing or staining. There are gray marks on the rim and numerous gray marks around the base; I was unable to remove these with careful cleaning. Please see the pictures for more information and to help with your decision.
This creamer measures 2 ½’’ high.
