Vintage 1910s Pre-Prohibition Wooden Whiskey Crate. National Bond Whiskey produced by The American Distilling Company of the 8th District of Illinois. Wm. Bergenthal Sole Proprietors Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Crate indicates "SPRING 1910 BOTTLED 1915", the 5-year age statement. Fully labeled crate carries stenciled text on all four side. While the whiskey is not identified, it is likely that the crate carried Shamrock Rye Whiskey, a flagship brand for Bergenthal. There are very small remnants of an old green tax stamp used on bottled-in-bond whiskey. Crate measures 16" X 12", stands about 11.5" tall, and weighs about 6 pounds.
This crate is in Fair Condition. The stenciling is fairly vibrant, with the year statements being a bit less so, since they were stamped on after the primary stenciling. There is considerable wear as seen in the photographs, but it's to be expected for a wood box used to transport stuff over 100 years ago. The paper tax stamp is largely lost to time, with small remnants giving us hints as to its original green color. Top corners are pretty beat up, age-related wood split here and there, some damage on the bottom, etc.
