Vintage Portmeirion Pottery Shaving Scuttle – A.R. “Kurba” Corset
Wonderful vintage ceramic shaving scuttle featuring an unusual reproduction Victorian advertising transfer for the A.R. “Kurba” Corset, sold by Frisby, Pyke & Co., Ford Street, Liverpool.
This traditional shaving scuttle features a perforated upper soap/lather bowl with a lower reservoir designed to hold warm water, along with a large side opening/spout and loop handle.
The vintage corset advertising motif is associated with Portmeirion's early advertising/old-print designs, and Portmeirion shaving scuttles are known with several period corset advertisements. This example is unmarked on the base, so please review all photographs closely. It is being attributed to Portmeirion based on the form, dimensions, decoration and comparison with documented examples.
