Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic vintage Mola textile panel expertly hand-crafted by the indigenous Guna Kuna artisans of Guna Yala (the San Blas Islands) in Panama.
This striking piece features a brilliant, complex geometric layout with a stylized central human or spiritual figure set inside a large star motif. The central figure is beautifully framed by multiple stylized animal figures—including birds and quadruped creatures—rendered in layered panels across a vibrant red field.
The panel showcases the classic indigenous reverse applique technique. Multiple layers of high-saturation cotton fabric (red, blue, orange, yellow, green, and black) are precisely cut away and hand-turned with exceptionally neat border embroidery.
The textile is wrapped over a rigid backing board and neatly secured into a vintage gold-toned wooden frame using traditional metal framing triangles. It is structurally sound and completely ready to hang as a standout addition to any folk art, global textile, or bohemian home decor collection.
This mola panel is in Very Good Vintage Condition with beautiful, highly saturated colors and tight, secure stitching. Because this is an authentic, aged textile, it exhibits minor signs of character and history:
There are a few tiny, faint dark spots or speckles on the red background fabric. One minor cluster sits directly below the top-right animal\'s front paw, and a few small specks are located next to the bottom-right animal\'s hind leg (both detailed in our close-up photos).
The vintage wooden frame shows minor, superficial age-appropriate surface scuffs but remains completely structurally sound and secure.
