Rare and unusual Max Le Verrier bronze vide-poche / small decorative dish, featuring a classical relief of Mercury (Hermes) and produced in connection with Mercury Omnès.
The underside is signed M. Le Verrier and marked BRONZE.Measurements: approximately 4\" diameterWeight: approximately 160 g / 5.6 oz
The central relief depicts Mercury in motion, holding his caduceus, the serpent-entwined staff traditionally associated with the Roman messenger god. With his other arm he appears to support or carry a smaller figure, whose arm reaches upward toward Mercury\'s distinctive stylized headgear. Drapery and the strongly modeled figures give the small relief a wonderful sense of movement.
Raised lettering around the composition reads “POUR MERCURY OMNÈS.”
A specialist Max Le Verrier reference collection associates the design with Établissements Mercury Omnès, a French travel-agency business. The collector suggests that the piece may have been produced as an exclusive corporate or promotional gift and notes having encountered only one example.
Good vintage condition with an aged bronze patina, surface wear, darkening and areas of oxidation/verdigris consistent with age. It has not been aggressively polished, preserving the character of the original surface. Please review photos closely for condition and details.
A particularly interesting piece for a collector of Max Le Verrier, French Art Deco bronze, antique advertising, classical mythology, or vintage travel memorabilia.
