A Short History of Marathon CompactsThe Marathon Company was founded in Attleboro, Massachusetts — America\'s jewelry capital — in the early 1900s (originally as the Attleboro Chain Company). By the 1920s it had become a well-known maker of stylish vanity cases and powder compacts. Specializing in beautiful guilloché enamel designs with hand-painted florals, Marathon produced affordable yet high-quality pieces that captured the glamour of the Art Deco and early postwar eras. Compact manufacturing continued into the 1940s before the company shifted focus to other jewelry items. Today, vintage Marathon compacts remain popular with collectors for their charm and American craftsmanship.
