Offered here is an impressive vintage traditional-style kukri (khukuri) with substantial curved carbon-steel blade, dark horn handle, brass fittings, leather-covered scabbard, and both traditional companion implements.
The blade has considerable thickness through the spine and shows age, patina, tool/grinding marks and wear consistent with an older hand-finished piece.
Of particular interest is the hand-incised decorative work along the blade, including geometric and wavy-line designs with small brass-colored decorative accents/inlays. The blade also incorporates the traditional cho/notch at its base.
The dark grip appears to be buffalo horn, with a brass bolster and substantial brass pommel/butt cap. The tang extends through the handle and is visibly peened at the pommel, a traditional method of kukri construction.
The original-style black leather-covered wooden scabbard is included and shows considerable age and character. Also included are the two traditional companion implements commonly known as the karda and chakmak, which fit into the smaller pockets at the rear of the scabbard. Complete surviving sets are particularly desirable compared with examples missing these pieces.
The overall design and construction are consistent with traditional Nepalese/Indian subcontinental kukri manufacture. Kukris of this general form have a long association with Nepal and the Gurkha tradition; however, this example has no provenance establishing military issue, and I have found no maker, arsenal, unit or date marking. Exact maker, country and period of manufacture are therefore unknown.
The knife has not been aggressively restored, and the existing patina has been retained. Expect scratches, oxidation, discoloration, edge wear and other evidence of age/use. The leather scabbard likewise shows vintage wear. Please examine all photographs closely, as they are an important part of the description.
Approximately 14.5 inches overall based on measurement.
