Red lacquer stacking box from Wajima.3 layers featuring exquisite Chinkin ornamentation, a highly precise japanese technique where a master artisan fine-carves a design in the the dense lacquer layer with a chisel and presses pure gold leaf or powder into incisions. Hand carved chrysanthemums, a symbol of longevity and noble distinction in japan. Floating gently next to the main design are scattered cherry blossom petals.
