Vintage Goebel Sacrart HW 45 Angel Holy Water Font – Germany Crown Mark
Beautiful Vintage German Religious Collectible | Circa 1940s–Early 1950s | Crown Mark Era
Offered for sale is a charming vintage Goebel Sacrart Angel Holy Water Font, Model HW 45, a collectible German ceramic wall-mounted holy water vessel featuring a beautifully detailed angel holding a small basin with a raised golden-yellow cross.
This delightful religious piece is attributed to Goebel of Germany and believed to date from approximately the 1940s to early 1950s, based on its design, construction, and early impressed markings.
A lovely example of traditional German religious craftsmanship, combining devotional significance with the timeless charm of vintage European porcelain and ceramic collectibles.
Design & Artistic Details
The angel features a peaceful, delicately painted face with rosy cheeks, expressive blue eyes, and softly curled blonde hair.
Its graceful blue wings extend upward behind the head, beautifully contrasting with the deep red glazed robe decorated with small white polka dots.
The angel holds a generously shaped, ivory-white holy water basin with a softly shaded rim and a raised yellow cross prominently displayed on the front.
The combination of gentle facial features, detailed sculpting, and colorful hand-painted decoration gives this piece its distinctive vintage character.
Historical Significance & Maker’s Marks
The reverse features several important identifying details:
* GERMANY – Original country-of-origin stamp.
* HW 45 – Impressed model designation, consistent with documented examples.
* Crown-style impressed marking – Appears consistent with the early Goebel Crown Mark (TMK-1).
* Additional small numerical production marking.
The Goebel Crown Mark is associated with an early period of the company’s production, generally dating from approximately 1934 to 1950.
The markings and design suggest a mid-20th-century production date, possibly during the 1940s or around 1950. The exact manufacturing year has not been independently verified.
Please note: This example does not display a visible blue Full Bee mark and is not being represented as a double-marked example.
Original Purpose & Collectible Appeal
Traditionally, holy water fonts were mounted on walls near household entrances, bedrooms, or personal prayer areas in Catholic homes.
They held a small quantity of holy water for blessing oneself, serving as meaningful symbols of faith, protection, and devotion.
Today, vintage German angel holy water fonts are appreciated by collectors of religious antiques, Goebel ceramics, devotional art, and traditional European home decor.
This piece makes a beautiful addition to a Catholic prayer corner, religious collection, vintage-inspired interior, or thoughtful devotional gift.
