Striking vintage Japanese kimono in a wonderfully modern abstract botanical print. Deep navy-black ground scattered with graphic ivory branches and vivid red, orange and green leaves — a bold, almost mid-century modern textile design that feels remarkably contemporary.
Traditional kimono construction with wide sleeves and a long, fluid silhouette. Accompanied by the vibrant orange woven sash/obi shown, which provides a fantastic contrast to the dark patterned silk. The sash retains an old Japanese paper retail tag marked ¥1,600.
The kimono itself is unlabelled. Based on the construction, textile and design, I believe it dates approximately to the 1950s–1960s. A beautiful example to wear, display or collect, with particular appeal for anyone drawn to Japanese textile design and mid-century fashion.
Kimono and orange sash/obi included. The sash is presented with the kimono, but I cannot confirm that the two were originally sold together.
Vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use; please see photographs for condition and details.
