Native American small hand-coiled brown ware seed pot from the Santa Clara Pueblo, in New Mexico, signed by artist/potter Christine Nieto (1965-2009), decorated in floral sgraffito etching that encircles the pot.
Christine Nieto was from a family of Santa Clara Pueblo potters and was known for her sgraffito decorated brown ware burnished seed pots. She was the daughter of Lorraine Agnes Naranjo. The people of the Santa Clara Pueblo on the Rio Grande in New Mexico are of the Tewa ethnic group and are known for their local hand thrown coiled pottery tradition.
