This is a vintage ceramic holy water font (shoup), featuring a hand-painted blue, turquoise and white design.
The artist, Carmelo Carriero, founded the (1979) Ceramiche d'Arte Carriero workshop located in Grottaglie, Apulia, Italy, a historic town famous for its traditional pottery district. His pieces are entirely handcrafted using traditional regional Majolica (faience) techniques. Each design features distinct structural elements - such as the twisted clay detailing seen.
The piece measures 5 3/4" long x 3" wide x 1 3/4" deep
Excellent condition - no chips, cracks, etc.
