The AALwas a fraternal benefit society founded in 1902 in Appleton, Wisconsin, tosupport members and their families in case of death or sickness.In 1905, AAL expanded to provide insurance to women, which was notable, as this was 15 years before women\'s suffrage in the United States.AAL merged with the Minneapolis-based Lutheran Brotherhood (founded in 1917) on January 1, 2002, to create Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The small pin measures 7/16\" long by 5/16\" wide.
