Vintage 1988 Christmas Treasures Large Wooden Nutcracker Soldier – Approx. 20\" Tall
A great larger-format vintage Christmas display piece from the late 1980s. This traditional wooden soldier nutcracker is marked “1988 Christmas Treasures” on the underside of its red wooden base and stands approximately 20inches tall, giving it considerably more presence than the common 10–14 inch nutcrackers.
The soldier has a distinctive old-fashioned military appearance with a large dark brown/black faux-fur hat, fluffy white side hair, white beard, blue painted eyes, black curled mustache and a cream/white uniform accented in red, black and gold. The uniform includes painted decorative details across the chest and waist, black boots with painted gold eyelets and white crisscross laces, and a bright red rectangular display base.
The original-style long wooden staff is included and fits into the opening in the soldier\'s hand. The traditional nutcracker lever is present on the back.
What makes this example especially appealing is its classic late-1980s Christmas-store appearance. The oversized fur hat, neutral ivory uniform and deep red base give it a much more traditional vintage look than many brightly colored modern reproductions. At approximately 20 inches tall, it works especially well on a fireplace hearth, entry table, holiday buffet, beside a Christmas tree, or as part of a collection of vintage wooden nutcrackers.
This is an authentic vintage item and has been displayed and stored over the decades. It shows expected age/use wear including scattered paint rubs, light scratches/scuffs, small marks and minor finish wear. The boots and lower portions show some visible rubbing, and there is additional normal cosmetic wear around the arms, shoulders, back and red base. The faux fur shows normal age but remains attractive and full. Please enlarge and review every photograph for the best representation of condition.
