Up for sale is an authentic Cold War-era West German Army (Bundeswehr) side cap, or Schiffchen, manufactured in May 1982 by the defense contractor Textilwerk Hümme GmbH. This original piece of military history features the traditional national cloth cockade stitched securely to the front of its durable olive-drab cotton moleskin fabric. The interior includes a fully legible manufacturer label detailing its official NATO stock number and care instructions. It remains in excellent vintage condition with strong stitching and intact ventilation eyelets, making it a fantastic addition to any militaria collection or historical display.
While the factory stamp reads size 58, years of storage and laundering mean this genuine vintage cotton hat now fits closer to a size 55. A previous surplus handler even noted this slight shrinkage with a subtle handwritten "55" in blue ink next to the factory stamp. It definitely leans toward the smaller side, so please purchase keeping a 55 cm head circumference (approx. US size 6 ⅞) in mind for a proper fit. Please review all the provided photos closely to verify the excellent condition of the fabric and the tag details. Your item will be packaged carefully and shipped out promptly.
