Vintage 1980s Soviet Military Industrial Factory Lamp / USSR Original Loft Lamp.Vintage Soviet industrial or special-purpose lamp. By design, it has a metal enameled lampshade, a flexible metal sleeve (corrugated rod) and a rigid tubular base for attachment to equipment or a workplace. Similar lamps were produced at enterprises of the military-industrial complex of the USSR in the 1960s–1980s and were used not as household lamps, but as work lighting.
Such lamps were installed on factory machines, control stands, assembly tables, measuring equipment, in repair shops, laboratories and workshops of defense industry enterprises. They provided local lighting of a small working area, allowing for precise performance of mechanical, electrical and control and measuring work.
The main feature was a durable design. The lampshade was made of steel with an enamel coating that reflected light well and withstood high temperatures from an incandescent lamp. The flexible part allowed changing the direction of the light at almost any angle, and the rigid lower tube provided reliable attachment to the machine frame or a special bracket. Such lamps were designed for long-term continuous operation in difficult production conditions.
At the enterprises of the military-industrial complex, they could be seen in factories quite often. Despite this, the lamps themselves were standard industrial lamps of increased reliability, which were supplied to various state enterprises.
For lighting, incandescent lamps were usually used, modified depending on the place of operation. In production facilities, low-voltage options were often used to increase electrical safety.
Due to their simple design, the lamps were easily repaired: if necessary, the cartridge, wiring or flexible sleeve were replaced. That is why many of these lamps worked for decades.
Today, such Soviet factory lamps are of interest to collectors of industrial design, restorers of old workshops and lovers of the industrial style. After cleaning from rust, replacing the wiring, and painting the lampshade, they are often used as original table or workbench lamps, preserving the characteristic appearance of Soviet industrial equipment of the second half of the 20th century.
