This vintage collection includes eight glossy, solid-black buttons in two complementary styles: four heavy, diamond-faceted glass coat buttons and four self-shank dress buttons—two square checker-cut designs and two multifaceted rounds. Their backs show varied vintage construction, from smooth self-shanks to textured circular compression rings and embedded metal loops. All are structurally sound, with no major chips, cracks, or split edges. They show only light handling scuffs and small remnants of original thread.
• Size: 0.75–1 inch (20–25 mm) / 32–40 lignes

Dating to the 1930s, this mixed lot reflects the geometric designs popular in high-end dressmaking and everyday outerwear before World War II. The four larger buttons are molded jet glass, a synthetic alternative to costly natural jet. The smaller geometric buttons are made from early compression-molded thermoset resin. French and American ateliers often paired materials in matching colors, creating coordinated sets for home sewing and garment production. Smaller square buttons could accent blouses or sleeves, while the heavier glass buttons fastened a matching wool jacket.
With their deep black color and geometric cuts, these buttons reflect the style of prewar fashion. The square buttons’ checkerboard facets and the glass rounds’ gemstone-like cuts catch the light, giving them the look of small pieces of jewelry. They suit period restorations of vintage tweed jackets, handmade winter coats, and collections of Art Deco buttons.
