This distinctive field pack was procured through the Counterinsurgency Support Office (CISO) and was used by U.S. Special Forces, CIDG personnel, LRRP units, and reconnaissance troops, including MACV-SOG personnel.
This example is made from a stiff, coated cotton canvas with a somewhat lighter olive-gray tone than some other examples. It retains the characteristic three external pockets, large main compartment, rear map/document pocket, padded shoulder straps, and the original narrow waist strap.
A particularly interesting feature is the large period-style hand-painted marking on the top flap, reading approximately:
\"N.N.P. 445\"
The exact meaning of the marking is unknown.
Condition is very good for an original Vietnam War field pack.
- Coated cotton canvas remains strong and firm
- Main body shows only moderate field wear, staining, and surface marks
- All major pockets remain intact
- Original shoulder straps are present
- Original waist strap is still present
- Two areas of the web straps have period-style repairs
- Some strap ends show fraying and wear
- Drawstring closure remains present
- Buckles and hardware are present
- No major tears to the main body
I personally acquired this rucksack from a warehouse in Vietnam around 2000 during one of my buying trips to the country.
A very good original example of the distinctive CISO Indigenous rucksack, with unusual painted field markings and much of its original strapping still present.
Please examine all photos carefully for exact condition and details.
