Large, Hand Carved, 3-piece primitive folk art Nativity setEntirely hand-carved from solid, natural tree branch logs.Stunning holiday collection features the Holy Family (Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus) beautifully carved from the wood limbs. This set is unbranded and unmarked.Artisan Features & Craftsmanship:
- Solid Log Construction:Dense, heavy cross-sections of real branches. The flat saw-cut bases reveal the wood's gorgeous growth rings
- Integrated Bark Garments: The carver left the thick, textured outer bark intact, allowing it to flow into the carved sculptures to form rustic robes and garments.
- Clever Branch Joint Engineering: The tree's natural growth was used by incorporating an original branch offshoot knot to cleanly form the knee without using artificial pegs or glue lines.
- Hand-Chiseled Faces:Beautifully detailed chisel facets shaping the faces, features and hair
- Textile Accents: Coarse, primitive burlap shawls cover the parents, and Baby Jesus is nestled inside a hollowed-out log-slice cradle "wrapped" in a carved wood swaddling cloth.
- Note: some discoloration to the robe/burlap features due to age. Please see photos.
