Kenya 1980-2000 Soapstone
The sculpture is in very good condition with no breaks, chips, or structural repairs. The stone shows no surface handling marks, smudging, but has characteristic natural mineral veining consistent with normal display.
This is a great gift to give to that new member of the family or to give to someone to show how important they are to you and how much that unity means to you. Beautiful gift.
These abstract sculptures originate from the Kisii region in southwestern Kenya, where the local Gusii artisans have mined and carved soft soapstone, known locally as Kisii stone, for generations. Beginning in the mid-to-late 20th century, artisan cooperatives and fair-trade initiatives popularized these modernist, minimalist unity designs for the international craft and tourist markets. They are prized today for their fluid, organic forms and their symbolic themes of community, love, and togetherness.
