Brushed Steel Pineapple Palm Lamp Base, Hollywood Regency Style — Vintage, 1980s The story and character of the piece
The pineapple and palm motif became one of Hollywood Regency's most recognizable signatures, closely associated with the French lighting house Maison Charles and widely copied across Europe through the 1970s and 80s. It let a lamp base carry real sculptural drama — stylized fronds fanning outward from a central urn — while still reading as polished and considered rather than overworked.
This lamp base, in that Hollywood Regency spirit and dating to the 1980s, is finished in brushed steel with a stylized pineapple-palm silhouette, the fronds rising from an urn-shaped center section above a square base with gold-toned accents. Note how each frond is individually shaped with a slight taper and curve rather than a uniform stamped outline — the kind of sculptural variation that gives the piece real botanical presence rather than reading as a generic leaf motif. The brushed steel finish gives it a cooler, more modern edge than the gilt brass versions of the same design more commonly seen.
