Vintage 1950s-60s Kurtis-Kraft "500" Series Frank Kurtis Company Water Slide Decal. Frank Kurtis of Glendale, California was the preeminent builder of open-wheel race cars in America from the late 1940s well into the 1950s. Kurtis-Kraft built 120 Indianapolis 500 cars, five of them winners, in 1950, 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1955. In 1953, 24 of the 33 cars in the Indy 500 field were Kurtis-built roadsters. Kurtis also built more than 550 ready-to-run midget cars, and his "Indy 500 Series" half midgets carried features from his Indianapolis winners, like adjustable torsion bar suspension. This decal shows the Frank Kurtis Company Kurtis-Kraft Products globe logo between crossed checkered flags, with a small race car on top and "500" Series below. It was made by The Meyercord Co. of Los Angeles as a Hyalac window sign. It is new old stock, never used and still on its original backing, with yellowing from storage, small tears along the backing edges and a pencil mark on the back.
