ABOUT THIS SIGN
The December 1953 cover treatment - the first issue the magazine ever published - worked up as a round porcelain plate. Look at the credit line along the bottom edge: it reads MOROE, not MONROE. Misprints like that are the detail advanced collectors hunt for, because they date a plate to one specific run rather than to a design that was reproduced for years.
Marked on the face: \"What Makes Marilyn?\", \"December, 1953\", \"PLAYBOY - Entertainment for Men\", \"Sweetheart of the Month\" and, along the lower edge, \"Posed by MARILYN MOROE\".
Size: approximately 12\" in diameter (305 mm), measured by the seller.
CONDITION
Judge the condition from the photographs - the sign is shown from every angle, including the reverse and the mounting holes, and nothing is cropped out. On porcelain of this age, fine specking in the enamel, small chips at the edges and wear around the mounting holes are normal and are not faults. After decades of age and storage a sign may also sit slightly warped or a little bent rather than perfectly flat - it still hangs and displays fine, and you will not notice it once it is on a wall.
