This beautiful ukiyo-e woodblock print depicts Nagakubo-juku, the 27th post station of the Nakasendo, located in what is now Nagawa Town, Nagano Prefecture.
The scene is set along the Yoda River and Yoda Bridge under a full moon.
Travelers crossing the bridge, a group departing on horseback, and children playing with a dog are beautifully arranged in a lyrical composition with a strong sense of perspective.
This work is part of the famous Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido, the renowned collaborative series associated with Utagawa Hiroshige and Keisai Eisen.
