Ultra Rare 2.75” Megalodon Tooth in 5.4” Natural Matrix – Sharktooth Hill, CA:
$650.00

Ultra Rare 2.75” Otodus megalodon Tooth in 5.4” Natural Matrix – Sharktooth Hill, Bakersfield, California – Middle Miocene — Up for sale is an exceptional 2.75” (~7.0 cm) Otodus megalodon tooth preserved in a large 5.4” (~13.7 cm) matrix block from the famous Sharktooth Hill area near Bakersfield, California. These fossils come from the Middle Miocene Round Mountain Silt, deposited roughly 15–16 million years ago when a marine embayment covered this part of California; the celebrated Sharktooth Hill Bonebed contains an extraordinary concentration of sharks, rays, whales, dolphins, pinnipeds and other marine vertebrates. What makes this specimen especially collectible is the combination of species, locality and matrix preservation. Complete Bakersfield megalodon teeth are considerably harder to encounter than examples from many classic East Coast localities, and documented Sharktooth Hill megalodon teeth still embedded in their original matrix are particularly sought after. Rather than being an isolated loose tooth, the 5.4” matrix preserves the fossil in its geological context, creating a highly displayable piece that captures how these remains occur within the Miocene sediments. At 2.75 inches, the megalodon tooth itself is a substantial example of the enormous serrated cutting dentition of one of the largest predatory sharks ever known. The exact 2.75” megalodon tooth in the 5.4” matrix shown in the listing photographs is the specimen you will receive—an outstanding addition for collectors of rare megalodon localities, Sharktooth Hill fossils, California sharks and natural matrix display specimens.
