A set of two antique bookends made from metal salvaged from the USS Frigate Constitution during its 1927 restoration.The bookends have an attractive ship\'s wheel design with a list of battles joined in by Old Ironsides. Each has a lead weight and a copper strip to help hold books. They measure about 6 1/2\" tall x 5 3/4\" wide and have a wonderful patina.
Many of the copper fittings and other metal parts on the Constitution during its 1797 construction were made by Paul Revere\'s foundry. That original metal from ended up in these bookends, which were cast and sold to finance a restoration of this mighty ship a century ago.
Good condition as shown with typical antique wear and aging. They display and work really well.
If you have a block of wood from the Constitution, these are an ideal accompaniment, but they make a superbaddition to any collection or bookshelf.
