The letters “AC” identify the Aircrew qualification.Naval aircrew personnel have performed important duties aboard military aircraft, including reconnaissance, maritime patrol, surveillance, communications, and other aviation operations.Originally, qualified personnel could wear the insignia while serving in an authorized aircrew assignment. In 1965, Navy regulations expanded authorization for permanent wear by qualified personnel. This badge represents an important chapter in the development of American naval aviation.GOLD-FILLED HALLMARKThe reverse bears a small marking that appears to read “1/20 10K G.F.” above the number “250.”The apparent gold-filled designation is of particular collector interest.Gold-filled construction uses a bonded layer of gold alloy over a base metal. It is different from ordinary gold plating and is not the same as solid gold. The meaning of the additional “250” marking has not been independently established.CONDITIONPre-owned collectible condition. The badge displays surface scratches, light discoloration, patina, and handling wear consistent with prior use and storage. The raised details, central anchor, AC lettering, and feathered wings remain clearly defined. Two clutch-style fasteners are included as photographed. Please examine the photographs carefully for the exact cosmetic condition.DISCLAIMERThe reverse hallmark appears to indicate 1/20 10K gold-filled construction, but the metal has not been professionally tested. This item is NOT being represented as solid 10K gold. The exact manufacturer, production date, military service history, and original owner have not been verified. The 1958 date refers to the establishment of this insignia design and does not establish the manufacturing year of this particular badge. No claim of combat service, specific military deployment, or individual military ownership is made.COLLECTOR APPEALA distinctive piece of American military aviation memorabilia, suitable for collectors of U.S. Navy insignia, naval aviation history, military wings, qualification badges, and vintage militaria.Sold as pictured.
