*The copyright date is: 1850. This is Tappan and Bradford Lithography. They were one of the most reliable litho businesses in terms of always giving a fine report. This design may have been done by Lodowick Bradford. He was one of the top dozen or so designers on 19th century music sheets. The Constitution, still afloat after nearly 230 years, is the penultimate ship in American history and this print may be the best surviving example, in terms of condition, of what is among the most eye catching of naval prints on music covers. The Constitution was one of the first six frigates built under the Naval Act of 1794.
The circular tinted image of the ship plays very well against the black and white surround, which couples up the eagle, a national symbol of both strength and freedom, with the nautilus designs. In an earlier search, World Catalogue found only at Johns Hopkins (Levy). OCLC# 726911119. More exist, but any in full size, untrimmed, in this fine shape? A second title page (with no music) is scanned. They are both part of the same publication. This ranks among the pictorial documents from the mid-19th century that evocatively tracked important military moments of a developing nation.*International shipping must be approved in advance of offerding.*Item stored in zero acid plastic with backing board and will be packaged and mailed that way in a Kraft mailer for protection.
