RARE Antique "Creepy" Ventriloquist Doll Group Photo- 8.5x11 Original MountThe Ultimate Oddity for your Cabinet of Curiosities.Subject:
Large Group Portrait featuring a prominent Ventriloquist Dummy/DollEra:
Late1890s Early 1900s (C. 1895–1910)Total Size: 8.5" x 11" (Original Heavy Cardboard Mount)Description:
This is a remarkable and genuinely unsettling piece of early 20th-century vernacular photography. While the photo depicts a large gathering of men in an outdoor setting, the unmistakable centerpiece is the ventriloquist dummy seated in the front row.The doll features the classic, wide-eyed, slightly "uncanny valley" expression typical of early 20th-century craftsmanship. Its placement in a "normal" group setting adds a surreal, haunting quality that makes this a standout piece for collectors of the strange and unusual.Condition Report:Authenticity:This is an original large-format photograph on its original heavy cardboard mount (similar to an oversized cabinet card). It is NOT a modern reprint.Wear & Patina: The piece shows significant age-related wear, including heavy staining/water damage at the bottom, surface scuffs, and a vertical crease. This "as-found" patina only adds to the eerie, historical aesthetic of the item.Structural Note: The black tape seen on the edges is a period reinforcement used to stabilize the heavy card stock mount over the years. It is part of the item’s history and has not been removed to preserve the integrity of the board.
