Beautiful hand carved African Nativity sculpture featuring the Holy Family, Three Wise Men, additional figures, and animals arranged around the manger.
Carved from a single substantial piece of dense dark wood in the traditional Tanzanian style associated with Makonde carving and African blackwood, also known as mpingo. The sculpture has wonderful hand worked texture throughout, with individually carved faces, garments, animals, and architectural details.
Measures approximately 7.25 inches tall by 6 inches wide and weighs approximately 3 pounds. A substantial and impressive piece for its size.
The wood displays natural variations from deep brown to nearly black, with lighter brown grain visible in several areas.
Pre-owned vintage condition with age and surface wear consistent with a handcrafted wood sculpture. Natural wood checking/cracking is present, including a visible line on one of the upper figures. Please review all photos carefully for the exact condition and details.
A beautiful collectible Nativity for Christmas display, African folk art, religious art, or hand carved wood collections.
Exact age and individual artist are unknown.
