Up for sale is a beautiful vintage traditional Japanese studio pottery octagonal tea bowl (Chawan). This elegant piece is an exceptional example of traditional craftsmanship, featuring a lovely 8-sided geometry and a subtle, rustic crackle glaze over a warm beige/tan stoneware body.
The exterior is beautifully decorated in the traditional Mishima style, featuring hand-painted floral panels (resembling chrysanthemums or autumn blossoms) enclosed in fine geometric borders. The unglazed base features a distinct, hand-incised potter\'s mark carved directly into the clay (resembling the character \"ト\" or a stylized monogram).
The bowl comes complete with its original, high-quality fitted octagonal presentation box. The box is covered in a decorative woven floral brocade fabric and opens to a plush, deeply padded royal blue lining designed specifically to cradle and protect the ceramic.
• Measurements: The bowl measures approximately 4.25 inches in diameter and fits perfectly into the custom box assembly.
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The ceramic bowl is free of structural chips, modern cracks, or repairs. The fine line surface textures and organic iron spotting are an intentional, desirable part of the artisan studio firing process. The fabric storage box remains sturdy, clean, and holds its shape beautifully with minimal shelf wear. Please see photos for a complete look at the item.
