After two years ofnegotiations between the US Government and the Government of North Vietnam inHanoi in relation to the exchange of prisoners not one prisoner had beenexchanged.
THE SON TAY RAID:
On the 20th of November1970 Units of the US Special Forces, transported by helicopter pilots of theUnited States Air Force, 56th SPECIAL OPERATIONS left Thailand on amission to rescue 100 prisoners of war believed to be held at Son Tay in NorthVietnam. (30 Kilometres outside of Hanoi).
Probably the most famousoperation of all that occured during the Vietnam War the Son Tay Raid was theone of the largest joint operations to take place during the Vietnam War withNaval Aircraft attacking locations throughout North vietnam as diversionaryattacks through the night.
Over 140 men left theairbase in North Vietnam. On the 21st of November the Prison camp in Son Taywas attacked and taken but yielded no class=\"MsoNormal\" your kind Consideration.
