Religious Council of Rehovot Israel Judaica Document Signed Rabbi Sh. Yerushalmi:
$150.00

For your consideration is an original official appointment letter issued by the Religious Council of Rehovot, Israel, dated 12 January 1977 and signed in ink by Rabbi Sh. Yerushalmi, identified on the document as chairman of the Council. Typed in Hebrew on the Councils official letterhead, the correspondence reports its unanimous decision to appoint a replacement member following the resignation of a sitting representative. Preserved with its original manuscript signature and institutional format, the letter records an internal decision concerning the composition and governance of Rehovots municipal religious authority.
Religious councils formed part of Israels statutory system for providing Jewish religious services at the local level. Working with municipal authorities, government ministries, and local rabbinates, they administered or supported functions including marriage registration, kashrut supervision, ritual baths, synagogues, burial arrangements, and other communal religious services. The present letter therefore documents the administrative machinery through which public religious institutions selected representatives and maintained continuity when vacancies arose.
Unlike routine certification or general correspondence, the document concerns membership of the governing council itself. Its reference to a resignation, unanimous vote, and replacement appointment provides direct evidence of the procedures through which vacancies were addressed within a functioning religious council during the 1970s. It is best understood as authentic working correspondence recording a specific personnel and governance decision rather than as a ceremonial appointment certificate or an instrument issued directly by the national government.
One page in Hebrew on official Religious Council of Rehovot letterhead, dated 12 January 1977 and signed in ink by Rabbi Sh. Yerushalmi. Measuring approximately 6.5 9.25 inches, the sheet remains in very good condition, with filing folds, archival punch holes, light handling wear, and minor age-related marks consistent with institutional office use. The signature remains bold and clearly legible, making the document an uncommon primary-source record of municipal religious administration and council governance in modern Israel.
