Original vintage postcard production archive depicting President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan meeting Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.
The photograph documents the Reagans’ official meeting with Pope John Paul II in Vatican City on June 7, 1982.
This is not simply a commercially issued postcard. It is an original prepress production group prepared by Mike Roberts Color Productions of Emeryville, California, for the manufacture of a 3½ × 5½-inch postcard.
INCLUDED:
• One original color reference print, approximately 3½ × 5½ inches
• Eight original prepress photographic films/progressive color-separation elements
• Separate production components marked Red, Blue, Yellow and Black
• Original Mike Roberts Color Productions job envelope
• Ten physical pieces total, including the envelope
• Everything shown in the photographs is included
PRODUCTION INFORMATION:

• Production number: SC18259/CL-RR
• Series: No. 66

• Finished postcard size: 3½ × 5½ inches

• Handwritten production notation: “SC18259 6/83”
The handwritten “6/83” notation appears to indicate postcard production work completed in June 1983. The historic Vatican meeting depicted took place on June 7, 1982.
The punched photographic films were used to register and reproduce individual color components during the commercial printing process. Repeated production numbers and original Red, Blue, Yellow and Black laboratory markings connect the individual elements to the identified job envelope.
Together, the color reference photograph, eight production films and original numbered envelope form an uncommon surviving archive documenting the creation of this historic postcard.
The archive has crossover appeal for collectors of Ronald and Nancy Reagan memorabilia, Pope John Paul II and Catholic history, Vatican material, political photography, postcards, printing history and vintage production ephemera.
